For those of you following me on Instagram you know I played around in my hair and makeup this weekend.
I've never been a beauty guru or expert because I have always kept my maintenance level at the bare minimum. I have had a very active lifestyle since middle school with dance then became a runner in college with an intense study schedule now a busy mom which required me to keep beauty and hair as simple as possible but enough to look pretty and presentable.
I remember signing up for a makeup class at MAC in college because I thought I wanted to look camera ready every day. I got so overwhelmed and annoyed with all of the steps and products. I couldn't maintain an intensive face like that every day.
Although I admired makeup tricks I couldn't wrap my head around how certain things worked to enhance a woman's beauty. I spent most of my adult life with just a 3-5 step makeup regimen and hair, oh it's another story, because I had entirely too many things to do. There was no time to waste on beauty but I still loved the art of femininity. I'd always play around with lipstick here and there but still never got the hang of makeup entirely.
So sad to say that still at 37 years I haven't completely mastered how to do something with my face like most women with beautiful contouring and highlights. Thanks to hours spent on youtube videos and taking notes from friends who are gurus themselves, I am trying though.
Now you see ladies... I love hair and makeup. I love getting dolled up and looking glamorous but I've never really "had" to wear a lot of makeup with the exception of covering up these massive dark under eye circles. I have always more so paid attention to skin care because I wanted my skin to be flawless with or without makeup.
These past few months have taken a toll on my skin, body and hair. My lifestyle has changed drastically thanks to sitting at a desk all day. I don't workout as often and it is really showing in my skin and a few extra pounds of love plus with rushing to work I tend to just pull my hair into a ponytail. My hormones have gone bananas and all that toxicity going on within is currently being eliminated out from my skin, thanks to holding out on having a baby. I haven't really had issues with my skin outside of eczema but at 37 adult acne shows its little head.
As you get older your body changes, which is why it's important to form those healthy habits in your early 20's. Gratefully, I haven't fallen off that much where I can't catch it now. This weekend, I decided to take control NOW play around with some new makeup looks, hair and get back active. Here's what happened lol.....
Yes to my hair growing out! However, it's a no to the same hair regimen. I went back to the basics with a healthy hairstyle I've loved. It's a basic roller set that can be very versatile and low maintenance. I shampooed and deep conditioned my hair and rolled it with green and tan magnetic rollers, sat under a hooded dryer and VOILA!
Over the past few years, I have tried new products but nothing works for ME as well as MAC. I wear Studio Fix and concealer in NC45, fill in my brows lightly, MAC Retro Matte in Oh Lady. DONE!
NEW REGIMEN AND TIPS IN YOUR 30s
- Love yourself from the inside out (seriously it shows)
- Drink more water. I have started more fruit infused water too.
- Workout!!! Your skin glows and you keep your weight under control.
- Take your daily multivitamins plus biotin.
- Wash your face twice daily.
- Exfoliate once or twice a week.
- Tie your hair up and do as little manipulation to it.
- Make healthier food choices.
- Know your skin type and treat it accordingly.
- Keep yourself in environments that allow you to flourish and be your best.
