I have explored and been fascinated with everything Japanese since my freshman year of college. I had the absolute biggest girl crush on this girl that lived in my dormitory, her name was AIKO. The thing about Aiko was how detailed oriented she was, how everything was minimal about her but she was striking. I remember watching her prepare food in the dorm's kitchen and then it started---my love for Japanese food along with it's fashion. So, when working on the Beauty and the Food series, I knew exactly where I would enjoy Japanese food and share with you all. Here's Japanese food in Memphis---SEKISUI.
SEKISUI has been around the Memphis restaurant scene for a very long time. I visited the Midtown location for a lunch break from the studio and ordered my normal. Miso soup, House Salad, and Teriyaki Chicken. The sushi is pretty good but I wanted to eat a heavier lunch.
I could eat the Miso soup and House salad alone and walk away utterly satisfied. The ginger dressing on the the House Salad, I could literally eat an entire bowl by itself. The Teriyaki Chicken is full of so much flavor. It's clean and light. The sauce compliments the vegetables well and the orange is an unexpected fruit pairing.
Sekisui is known for it's Happy Hour with sake specials and great sushi roll features. They have an abundance of sake flavor and two for one deals. If you love Japanese food or want to experience it for the first time, totally stop by if you are in Midtown or Downtown and visit there other locations as well.
