As a custom designer, one of the greatest accomplishments you can have is to totally win over the most detailed client . Some clients see every little imperfection, they want the craftsmanship to be Godly impeccable. Well that client is definitely my mother. My mother sees the beauty and details in everything. When she text me to make her a dress for my Uncle's celebration of life and death, I was excited and nervous at the same time. But in the end, I won! So here's to sharing my beautiful mother with you all and the double petal sleeve dress....
My mother doesn't live in Memphis, she's based in Atlanta, so I had to take her measurements while visiting the weekend before the funeral. The pressure was on indeed. She called like a normal client , "Hey Little Girl I was checking in on my dress to see how's it going?" I told her It was going as it was. I was almost done but wanted to play a little bit and make her worried. LOL. She flew in and came to fit her dress I intentionally made it too big so that I had plenty of extra fabric to alter and take in. After minor alterations she was done and totally satisfied.
I take pride in giving my clients a great experience, family or not. I wanted to make sure I made my mother's dress to perfection well because I wanted her to be proud of my work. I wanted her to really see that I'm not just "at home sewing". I am making garments. Garments that create memories and make women feel beautiful and confident. Just as confident as she was in her custom designed dress by her daughter.
