I woke up one morning eagerly tackling my to do list. By 8 a.m. I had already checked off 3 major goals for the day, one being, listen to my Spanish audio book by Language Immersion Institute. However, I had not accomplished eating breakfast. Una Bombilla went off! How about exploring the idea of eating a mexican breakfast?! Would it be very hard to find an authentic mexican restaurant that serves breakfast? Of course not, thanks to Google. I ventured over towards Summer Avenue, a highly populated Latino area of the city, to find La Guadalupana Mexican Restaurant.
I realized like many people I had never experienced DESAYUNOS, that's breakfast in Spanish. I was very curious to see what would be served in during the day. I know typically we think of chips and salsa, fajitas and of course margaritas and mexican music playing in the background. I found the restaurant to be quite calming and very inviting. It was a beautiful sight to see--- so many images and statues of the Virgin Mary as well as Frida Kahlo. I mean come on...
After practicing Spanish with the waiter for I know 5 minutes, I ordered Huevos a la Mexicana with chips and salsa. I did ask for it to be served mild. Things can get a little spicy in Mexican restaurants, ya know.
I think it was the BEST breakfast I have had in a very long time. It was not too heavy but very filling. The tortillas were cooked to absolute perfection. I loved how the eggs had so much flavor with the tomatoes and peppers cooked with them. Even with jam packing my tortillas with eggs, rice and salsa I still had plenty left over. So the serving size is great to share with your amigas.
La Guadalupana is definitely my go to authentic Mexican restaurant, hands down. The restaurant is family owned, which is always a plus for me. La Guadalupana offers a variety of delicious Mexican dishes to customers throughout the Memphis. They have two locations, Summer Ave and Winchester. Do yourself a favor and go- explore breakfast, you'll thank me.
