Art by Design Series II

Last weekend, I had the honor and pleasure to present a unique and elevated Turn Your Room into A Wardrobe Tour and Talk at Art by Design. As you all know, Art by Design is a 3 day event series featuring the design artistry of 13 of Memphis’ top interior design teams, benefiting Arts Memphis. Demonstrating an astonishing array of talent, style, furnishings and art, the designers are collectively working to raise funds for over 60 arts organizations and individual artists in our city. I walked guests through 13 interior design vignettes curated with styled looks from Memphis local fashion and jewelry designers as well as some of the most fashionable retailers.  Here is Series II, as I have so many images and video. You are more than welcome to treat yourself to reading Series I, talk about super inspired.

I would describe Ami Austin's design vignette as feminine luxury. The woman who lives in this room is beautiful, graceful, and of course glamorous. Pairing her look meant texture and referencing the brass in the window treatment. I paired the sequin blazer byAndrea Fenise with an all white dress with streaking lines by Sugar Plum Consignment and the finishing detailing with a crystal statement necklace from my jewelry collection.

Without getting any information from Elizabeth Malmo about her source of inspiration, I knew immediately what room I was walking into--- a reading room for a very stylish woman. Upon speaking with Malmo, I was right. Coffee table books from the likes of Elie Saab, Beaton, Frida Kahlo and so many more were stand alone decor items.  As I slowly walked around taking inspiration from all of the fabulous pieces I knew the wide leg jumpsuit from Tiena would be the perfect piece to turn this book heaven into a wardrobe.

DRISCOLL DESIGN AND DECORATION

Gwen Driscoll's design philosophy is rooted in tradition with a personal twist. Gwen works with her clients to create spaces that reflect personal style while remaining timeless and elegant. She focuses on curating goods that have staying power and are an investment that can be passed down for generations. Much of Gwen’s work is founded in using her global-source network that includes highly skilled artisans, craftspeople, antiques and vintage finds.

Driscoll's vignette was a calming color way of blues, oranges, greens, and yellows done in a very unique way. I loved the design approach using those primary colors and bringing in so many other complimenting shades. When creating a look for this woman, who I called the Lady with the Blues, I wanted to stay true to what brought my eye in initially and that was the focal point being the blues and whites. Tiena's blue and white halter dress with the ruffled bottom styled with a statement necklace from Brave Design with a softer hue of blue.

I would have had thought upon walking into this design vignette that Neely Carter had sat down with me for a consultation to design my ideal workspace. She executed her design philosophy of marrying form and function in this really fun, colorful, eclectic office space. Seeing that this woman is "me", styling her was quite simple. A really fun green and white plaid gingham shirt dress from Beg and Borrow Apparel, denim vest to bring in the function and an funky necklace from Brave Design played well with the design elements like the plaid drapes and tusks in the office space.
