In order to renew ourselves and breathe life into every aspect of it, we must let go of things that are not serving a greater purpose to make room for more. Spring is symbolic for renewal and rebirth and ultimately becoming refreshed. This season is the perfect time to get yourself and your home organized from the inside out. I needed a fresh source of inspiration to declutter and organize my house especially as I adapt a more minimalist--or--essentialist lifestyle. Over dinner for my birthday, my friend Kris Keys suggested reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo because it changed her perspective from the inside out.
Marie Kondo, author and Japanese cleaning consultant, takes tidying to a whole new level, promising a total life transform and shift all from tidying up. In the book, she introduces readers to her KonMari Method, a concept of category-by-category of decluttering and organizing that claims to lead to everlasting results. For many many years, I have been fascinated by the culture and lifestyle of Japanese. I have longed to adopt the attention to detail and meticulous way of live of in many facets of my own. What I realized in reading the book, is the Japanese philosophy of Ying and Yang and the popular Feng Shui---everything has it's place-- is embedded like their DNA.
Kondo first introduces us to the art of DECLUTTERING. She says, To truly cherish the things that are important to you, you must first discard those that have outlived their purpose. ORGANIZING for her is definitely an art form and a very detail oriented magical experience. The book promises to reset your life, allow you to speak gratitude in everything---I mean everything in your life, get your house in order that will in turn begin restoration from the inside out.
