Behind the Seams : Helen's Sequin Ombre Dyed Tulle Dress

Every once and a while I get a design project that makes me fall in love all over again. I began asking myself "What is it that makes you feel that way?" What is it about this project that is different from the others?" I realized it's that ability to have a broader range of creativity and learning something new about design along the way. Designing Helen's prom dress allowed every opportunity for creativity, love and passion. Now, I will share the beautiful documentation of the experience with you all. Here's Behind the Seams of Helen's Ombre Dyed Tulle Dress....

So the story goes... Helen's mom, Amy Hutchinson,  is an amazing I mean amazing photographer in the wedding industry. We've worked together sort of indirectly through mutual clients within the industry. Crazy thing is, I have longed to work collaboratively on a project with her but never would have imagined it would be for her daughter's senior prom. When Amy reached out to me via Facebook and asked if I would make her daughter's prom dress, I clutched my pearls and gasped with excitement and humbleness. ME????? After grinning ear to ear, I set up a consultation and fitting to get an idea of exactly what direction  we would go.

After getting Helen's prom inspiration board from Pinterest , I thought... What fun?! A gorgeous blend of the two fabrics I adore working with sequin and tulle. I mean C'mon. How different will she be?

Now, it was time to get to work. The fun part!!!!!!! I noticed in the inspiration picture that the tulle had an ombre effect with shades of eggplant purple and lavendar. HMMMMM knew that would not be commercially available. So, I had to go the extra mile and create a custom ombre dyed color based on Helen's vision. We didn't want to recreate the exact same dress because we wanted the prom dress to exude Helen's personality and style.

After constructing the dress, it was now time for her fitting. Man was I nervous. Why? I have no clue. I wanted it to be perfect for her because I put so much passion into her dress. Much to my surprise, the fitting was easy breezy and I was so thankful that the entire client experience was what I both planned and hoped for.

It was now time to send this lovely dress off for Helen to prepare for hair & makeup looks. But before it departed from the studio, Kamesha of Ava Loren Design made a dapper bowtie for Helen's date and also did a special favor of addressing my handwritten note to both Amy & Helen with her impeccable calligraphy.

So when your mother, is THE wedding photographer your prom pictures are pretty much guaranteed to be just absolutely breathtaking.
