Concrete Rose byAndreaFenise x Memphis Fashion Week

After anxiously waiting for pictures from Memphis Fashion Week, I can now share with excitement, my experience showing Concrete Rose my mini collection for Memphis Fashion Week 2016.

Saturday morning, I woke up like it was Christmas day. I had an array of emotions to be quite honest. I was nervous and anxious because the day was finally here and for me it meant "It's over". The call time was bright and early at 8 am because we had to do model fittings and prepare garments for steaming.

I collaborated with my creative partner Kamesha Hervey Richard of Ava Loren Design for Concrete Rose. She designed and developed floral accessories exclusively for the mini collection. During the design phase, we discussed the florals, color palette and the visual references and stories we would tell with the accessories. My first time seeing the pieces completely constructed was during the fitting and needless to say there were lots of ooohhhh-ing and ahhhh-ing.

Models were sent to hair and makeup as we begin getting the models dressed and my nerves starting jittering all over Memphis College of Art. I've been in the back of the house so many times but not in this position of showing a collection.

Special thanks are in order... I'd like to thank Ava Loren Design for collaborating with byAndreaFenise. It was a pleasure as always. I always feel at total ease with giving my ideas and they magically come to life.

Kimberly Taylor who serves on the Memphis Fashion Week board and owner of K'Presha for allowing me to use studio space to design and work on Concrete Rose.

Abby Phillips and the Memphis Fashion Week staff for giving me the honor and privilege to make a dream come true. MFW is a platform that is like none other and I look forward to many more opportunities that should come.

Last but certainly not least, Phillip Tracey Jones, I dedicate this collection to you, to your spirit. Daddy, thank you for showing me how to trust myself, follow the signs, fall in love with my purpose and bloom in crack of the concrete. Through this collection, I learned to walk without having feet. Funny by keeping my dreams; I learned to breathe fresh air.

“We wouldn't ask why a rose that grew from the concrete for having damaged petals, in turn, we would all celebrate its tenacity, we would all love its will to reach the sun, well, we are the roses, this is the concrete and these are my damaged petals, don't ask me why, thank god, and ask me how” -Tupac Shakur
