Prayers, chants, and whispers didn't go unheard. IKEA coming to The Bluff City and not The Music City was manifestation and visualization work coming to pass. I've gasped for air in IKEA Twin Cities and Atlanta but I was given a breath of fresh air as I walked the showroom floor of IKEA Memphis this past Wednesday. IKEA Memphis is a refreshing change to design and living for this city and it's people. IKEA, known for it's affordable yet modern, minimalist approach to functional design, gives us all the opportunity to curate and design our homes.
IKEA Memphis, the 271,000 square foot Swedish superstore, opened it's doors to media and bloggers to get an early peek inside. We enjoyed a Swedish and American lunch in the 250 seat bistro. Everyone was so excited to be greeted by the general manager of IKEA Memphis, with fun facts about the brand, it's history, and Memphis being IKEA's 43rd store
If you haven't had the pleasure of shopping in IKEA, in my opinion, you are in for a treat for interior design inspiration. As you walk through the showroom, you are stimulated by very realistic visual merchandising of room layouts to shop. IKEA promotes a modern yet cozy home and serves limitless inspiration to curate and design your own home. What I love about IKEA and it's interior design team is the idea of attracting all lifestyles. We walked the showroom floors and was inspired by a single parent father and son loft space in a urban living to a young newly married couple to a young creative artist. The mantra of DESIGN FOR EVERYONE is tried and true with IKEA.
I mean the product line is so extensive that it could be overwhelming in a good way for first time shoppers. IKEA offers everything from sofas with interchangeable covers, cowhide rugs, cork screws, glasses, beds, home accessories, light fixtures, candles, vases, live plants, mattress, you name it I think IKEA has it.
I'm all about lifestyle and shopping with retailers like IKEA who keep in mind it's customer's daily life, like shopping with children. How awesome and convenient is the children’s play area, Småland. We used every opportunity while shopping the IKEA Atlanta for Amira to play while I shopped. She was safe and totally cared for while I shopped without her walking the showroom with me begging everything in site.
However, if you have a inner interior designer on your hands, you can walk the kids with you to get some inspiration on designing their small and colorful little spaces. What I love about the children rooms, spaces and product line is the functionality yet they keep it fun and cool.
It was not hard at all to get a few ideas on how to redesign and organize Amira's space. Of course, I already have a running list of items I will take home on the opening date.
Here's where IKEA has me totally initiated! They offer in house interior design services and consultations with a staff of interior design consultants who can provide design advice and home layouts. HOW AMAZING?! They also have an interior design app , IKEA HOME PLANNER. You become your own home interior designer by entering exact room measurements. You rearrange and try different styles until you're satisfied with the result. View it in 3-D and print with all the measurements, just like an architect. Hey and one more awesome feature, they sell fabric by the yard or remnants. Hone in on your sewing skills and use fabric to make pillows, window treatments and other design projects for your home.
Now that you've been inspired and shopped one of my favorite home furnishing retailers, it's time to take everything home to curate and design your space. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND --- all my DIY, interior design gurus, guess what?! IKEA offers picking and delivery services. YOU KNOW WHAT?! They also offer transport and in home assembly. It makes your life so much easier and your home that much more enjoyable.
IKEA Memphis opens it's doors Wednesday December 14th at 7900 IKEA Way-- it will be super bananas. There will be giveaways, prizes for the kids and of course you can shop all day to curate and design your home. Plan your visit ahead of time and remember to join the IKEA Family for news and discounts
