Night Women Exhibit by Delita Martin

Last week I had the honor of attending the opening night of Night Women by Delita Martin here in Memphis at the Annesdale Art Gallery. The exhibit details the work in reconstructing the identity of Black women by piecing together the signs, symbols, and language found in what could be called everyday life from slavery through modern times. Martin's goal is to create images as a visual language to tell the story of women that have often been marginalized, offering a different perspective of the lives of Black women. The entire experience is a delight in deco detailing and truly inventive craftsmanship…

I personally enjoyed learning about the stories of the women and how their beauty is so intricately articulated through art. Martin attention to detail is impeccable and captivates you with every glance.
