I don't know why but when it gets cold outside I get into a book obsession. I find comfort in the idea of curling up on the couch with a warm blanket, hot chocolate and a great book. Reading for me is the ultimate therapy. Laying up with a good book for a few hours is kinda of like going on a week long vacation. It’s that time to disconnect that I think my brain craves these days. Flipping through the pages and visualizing characters and their lives is more than relaxing, it's also a creative exercise.
In light of everything going on in the world and recent political events, I wanted to recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns. Khaled Hosseini is by far one of my favorite authors yet. I was introduced to him by reading Kite Runner and fell in love. His writing style is amazing and the way he intricately and beautifully writes about love, war and tragedy is fascinating.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a great follow up to his debut Kite Runner and added to the list as a classic novel. I will not give any details of the book away. However, I will say it is a highly recommended read during these times. It will offer you or any reader a more human insight and perspective on the political unrest.
What books are you all reading? I'd love to know and hopefully compile a list of books to read over this holiday season.
